• The Palani Malai Kavadi Golu doll Set is unique in that it depicts scenes of a traditional Hindu practise that involves carrying a physical burden on the shoulders during the pilgrimage to Palani Hills in Tamil Nadu, India.
• One popular theme for the Golu display is the "Palani malai kavadi" theme, which features miniature dolls of Palani hills, Raja Alnkaram Murugan, and devotees with kavadi.
• Golu is a South Indian festival celebrated during the Hindu festival of Navaratri, featuring a set of steps decorated with Bommais dolls of various shapes and sizes. The Golu doll is not just a sight to behold; it's a storyteller too. It narrates tales of tradition and spirituality.
• The legend behind why devotees carry kavadi to Palani: Sage Agastya wanted to take two hills, Sivagiri and Saktigiri, to his abode in the south and commissioned his asuran disciple Idumban to carry them. Idumban reached Palani and felt fatigued, so he placed the kavadi down to take rest. When he resumed his journey, he found that he could not lift the hill. On the hilltop, the great asuran spotted a little boy standing and demanded that he vacate at once.
• The boy refused, and Idumban was slain but later restored to life. Idumban recognised the boy as his ishta devata Murugan and prayed to Him that those who carried on their shoulders the kavadi, signifying the two hills, and visited the temple on a vow should be blessed and given the privilege of standing sentinel at the entrance to the hill. Since then, pilgrims to Palani have carried their offerings on their shoulders in a kavadi, and the custom has spread from the Palani hills to all Muruga shrines.
• Palani Malai Kavadi is a traditional Hindu practise that is commonly observed during the festival of Thaipusam, which is celebrated in the Tamil month of Thai (January or February) in honour of Lord Murugan, also known as Subramanya or Skanda.
• Palani Malai Kavadi Set is a traditional Kolu bommai hand crafted with clay.
• Decorate your Kolu Padi with this unique collection of Golu bommai for Navarathri from Giri.
• This Dassara dolls is an ideal present for festivals like Navaratri, Diwali, and housewarmings.
• This set stands apart from usual golu doll sets because it is painted in vivid, rich colours with a different composition and definition.
